TbayTel shares profits with City

There was another major contribution to the coffers of the City of Thunder Bay Thursday, courtesy of TbayTel.

The city-owned utility has announced it will again be directing a total of $16.5-million to city revenues. That matches the contributions they've made in each of the past two years.

The announcement of the dividend came Thursday morning at Thunder Bay City Hall. The telecommunications provider has been directing a portion of its profits to the City since 1995, when it made an initial contribution of $2.2 million. Chair of the TbayTel Municipal Services Board, Don Paterson, says the growth of that dividend is a reflection of the financial health and stability of the company.

Mayor Lynn Peterson says the $16.5 million benefits all members of the community, by reducing overall taxes. The board also announced that it will maintain it's annual commitment to the city at the same level for the next three years.
