Gore and Kerry are practically identical policy-wise. And Gore lost despite following up arguably the most successful presidency in modern times. He should have won by a landslide. But he made mistakes. He picked Lieberman, refused to use Clinton to help him, let Bush-Cheney get away with a lot. Plus he didn't handle Nader, who along with Bush's Florida cheating cost him the election.
A lot of people are welcoming back Gore now, but remember it's his PR campaign for his film. That's the only reason he's in the news. And a lot of people forget that Gore made a lot of mistakes, and lost at least one debate with Bush. In short, he left something to be desired as a candidate. Kerry's not perfect but he did a bit better than Gore on the campaign trail and he whipped Bush three times in a row in the debates without sweating.
If Gore runs he will be a strong contender, and he'd probably be my #2 choice, but right now people are only remembering his best qualities. Just something to consider.
Bottomline, vote against the Republican. No matter what. We can't afford any more years of what we've got now, or anything close. I would support any democrat who can make it to the nomination because it's very tough to get there, and if you make it there, you probably deserve it. |
