BellSouth wants USA Today retraction

UPI
May 18

NEW YORK

BellSouth Corp. Thursday demanded USA Today retract its claim that the phone company gave the U.S. National Security Agency domestic calling records.

Besides sending the letter to USA Today,

BellSouth sent it to the top lawyer for the newspaper's owner, Gannett Co.,

The Wall Street Journal said.

The phone company asks for an immediate correction of a May 11 article that says the company gave domestic phone records to the NSA,

the Journal reported.

BellSouth, which said the USA Today article contained

"faults and unsubstantiated statements,"

That same USA Today article said that Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. also provided the NSA with massive databases of domestic calls.

Both those companies also denied the claim.
