I'm not quite sure what is the confusion re. whether K8 will go through a dump shrink or not? It's quite clear:

Just look at the AMD's stated timeline re. FAB36: "Fab36 to be substantially converted to 65nm by mid 2007".

If the K8L is coming out in ~mid 2007, you can't expect the "substantial output" from 65 nm from a 300mm fab to be a CPU that's just intro'd.

Plus, K8L is enough of a change to warrant a requal on all platforms it may be used- even if it is a socket compatible solution.

What means that 65nm chips from Fab36 (if they were all K8L based) could not "drop in" to existing socket wins.

That would be insane.

Thus it stands to reason that the 1st 65nm shink HAS TO BE a dumb shrink of the K8.

QED.
