25 years ago we used to fly into Belize on a corporate owned jet. They had, at the time, big anti-aircraft battlements on the runway and they would track you with them. You needed to bring lots of cash with you to Belize because there was always an "inspection" that they needed to do along with paying a guard to stay with the plane so it didn't "take off without you". Best fishing was off Ambergris Cay. No phones, no A/C, very laid back and relaxed. Haven't been there in a very long time but have heard that the place has a casino on the island and it's become a very touristy place.
