AMD-DELL, My take.

While I'm in the camp that like Doug believes that NGA will be a darn good performer, this Dell thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense going forward.

BUT, What I believe transpired is that Dell had its lunch eaten by competitors who had the Opteron solution. Because of Dell's crappy performance last quarter (relatively speaking), it had to tell the Street something that tells them that they are taking the threat seriously, and if it said "just wait until woodcrest", the Street wouldn't buy it. But in effect, that is actually what they are doing. Sure they will have and sell a few 4S servers by year end, but I don't think it will impact AMD revenue by any significant margin.

My reasons:
1) They announced the AMD at the same time as their quarterly numbers.
2) Availability won't be until year end
3) The upcoming solutions are only Opteron, and on the highest models and lowest volumes.

Make no mistake, Dell is and will continue to be very Intel centric, unless Intel NGA is not as good as everyone believes, which I doubt.
