The politics of war are unusual. You can be a congressman and be anti-war, but it's the common political wisdom that you can't be a successful anti-war Presidential candidate. Eugene McCarthy, McGovern are examples. That's why you see the Dems twisting themselves into knots on the issue.

The other problem is the corporate special interests. If the Democrats rail against these folks and the corruption that follows, then they won't get the big money contributions and will be at a distinct disadvantage.

So they sit at an ethical crossroad and look pretty foolish. The Republicans don't have the same problem.

As to Murtha, he's obviously standing up for what he believes in, and you have to respect him for that. It's what these guys are supposed to be about.
