Flex fuel cars will be able to burn ethanol only, gas only, or any mixture of both. Also, Flex fuel cars are only marginally more expensive than gas only vehicles

As for the missing ethanol pumps just remember, if GM builds them they will come. I understand that existing gas pumps can be converted in ethanol pumps. Also, Walmart has confirmed that they will be installng ethanol pumps at locations that have gasoline pump facilities (mostly Sam's Club stores, I believe)

Flex fuel cars have been battled tested in Brazil. Their cars are made primarily by GM, VW and Ford. They work fine.

True, ethanol is less powerful than gas, but eventually ethanol prices should cost significantly less than gasoline. This is the case in Brazil. In the U.S. ethanol prices are higher than gasoline right now due to recent spikes in demand. As supply meets demand this will change.
