Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor
READ MORE: Downloads, Top, Windows, upgrades, vista

Windows only: Microsoft’s released a free utility that evaluates your current PC and tells you whether or not it’s ready for the upgrade to Windows Vista, due out some time in 2007.

The Advisor scans your computer, and then asks what you expect to get out of Vista. Choices include “watch and record TV,” “work anywhere,” and “simplify my business.” The Advisor will suggest which of the (approximately) 189 versions of Vista is best for you based on your selections, and then determines if your current hardware and software setup is compatible. If not, the Advisor will tell you the needed action, like “Upgrade your graphics adapter” or “Get updated driver.” All in all a worthy jaunt for those of you looking forward to the big unleashing of Vista, but still in beta so expect upgrades to the upgrade advisor. The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor is a free download, Windows only.
