While I agree with him that there are questions the entire population need to address, his ending paragraph with it's "purity of culture" overtones, is a bit...anglocentric (to put it in the nicest way I can think of). Cultures change over time, and trying to make decisions to protect the purity of one's culture is probably not a good road to travel (judging by those who have travelled it before.)

It would be far far better if we simply concentrate on what the various approaches will do the the American economy- taking in to account not only jobs, but social services, education, and we should leave the cultural purity arguments to the fringe hate groups which handle the issue so well. (a bit of sarcasm there- I'm just not looking forward to cultural purity going mainstream- which is where this kind of essay gets us. This is not something to encourage, imo)
