Hard to miss.

Only if you're looking for it.

I don't think we want to adopt the "cultures" of Latin America. Do you? Really? I like our own culture just fine, as amended over time by the melting pot. I like our Constitution. And our justice system. And our ethics. They're getting a bit raggedy, but I don't think they would be improved by a heavy dose of Latin American "culture." I don't think they would be improved by a heavy dose of any national culture, not a single one.

Certainly not the Latin American version. Mexico is a borderline basket case. Surely you, who are so concerned about the economic impact of everything, don't want the Mexican prison system or the corruption or the class structure and income disparity. I have enough trouble figuring out when and where and how much to tip. I don't want at my age to have to learn when and where and how much to bribe. Nor am I up for a military coup. I am, however, fond of Latin American food and music. But that's not the kind of culture that's at issue.
