I picked up on the icky nativism/racism right away. Almost commented, then changed my mind until I see you two disagreeing on how obvious it is.

Because of their humanity, culture and language, the workers and their families who cross the borders are far more influential than even the destabilizing flow of goods from China.

Yuck.

And also the boneheadedness:

If employers paid higher than substandard wages, Americans (who famously do almost anything for money, including eating worms, shooting themselves from cannons and listening to Barbra Streisand sing) would take these jobs.

Really, the beauty is that it summarizes the two stupidist arguments against immigration reform:

1) Immigrants will destroy our culture.

2) Immigrants will steal "our" jobs.
