koan, perhaps it is best to continue here..

you said "no one understands it". that's what i thought you were thinking. but i think HUP can be visualized and understood to a pretty good degree.

HUP states that the more accurately position is known, the less accurate momentum can be known. HUP is just a limitation of measurement.

suppose there are two people throwing a baseball back and forth. you station a camera where you can see the flight of the ball but the two people are out of the frame.

you take two pictures with two different speed settings when the ball is thrown.

on the slow setting the ball creates a blur in the picture. you know that the ball is at the opposite ends of the blur but you can't tell where. you can calc its momentum fairly accurately though. all you need to know is the shutter speed and the the length of the blur and the mass of the baseball.

on the fast shutter setting you get a crisp picture of the ball. that is, you can know its position fairly accurately. but with very little blur to measure it is hard to know its momentum accurately. the more you know position, the less you know momentum and visa versa.

all you need to do is substitute the baseball with an electron and you can see the same thing holds.

HUP is derived though the limitations of measurement.
