You believe the Vietnam War could have been won militarily? Then why with 550,000 troops and more bombs dropped than in all of WWII didn't we "win" (whatever win means in this case since were were killing half the country).

You should rent the DVD "Fog Of War" and listen to the confessions of Robert McNamara. He says clearly that the war was based on a lie, that we made enemies out of most Vietnamese with our arrogant overkill, that we murdered hundreds of thousands and that the whole thing was completely pointless to begin with.

Proof: After we left, the Vietnamese kicked the Soviets out and fought a war with red China. The whole excuse for fighting was supposed to be that the VC were Chinese and Soviet surrogates. They were not. They hated them just as much as every other foreign invader. The whole thing was us in the middle of a civil war, just like in Iraq now. Where we can also not win militarily.

Never-ever blame the press for telling the truth, pal. Unless you'd prefer a dictatorship. The press is sometimes our only salvation against tyranny. And Walter Cronkite has more integrity in his little finger than the entire Bush brigade does in their totality. Cronkite you could trust with your life. 20,000 US troops have found out they cannot trust Bush with their lives and limbs in Iraq.

Also watch the movie "Why We Fight" which explains that the arms industry is so huge it often pushes us into needless wars for profit. Like Iraq. And who's the biggest war profiteer of all? Halliburton. Which used to be called Brown + Root when it was the biggest profiteer of Vietnam, and close crony of LBJ. Halliburton is who we really need to fear.
