Last year they predicted 12-15 tropical storms, with 7-9 becoming hurricanes, and 3-5 of these becoming major hurricanes.
Last years prediction.
cpc.ncep.noaa.gov

What we actually got was 28 tropical storms and 15 hurricanes.

This year using much the same models, "For the 2006 north Atlantic hurricane season, NOAA is predicting 13 to 16 named storms, with eight to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which four to six could become 'major' hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher"
This year prediction.
noaanews.noaa.gov

What we actually get this year could be higher or lower. Comparing last years prediction to what really happened shows that the prediction can be quite a bit off.
