Gore is not the savior you think he is. I like Al, and met him recently. There are several reasons he is not the man to put your hopes behind, number one he isn't running, number two he's happy in his life now and cringes as the thought of a grueling campaign, plus he knows he blew it in 2000.
Even with Bush's cheating in Florida, Gore should have won by 20% with what he had going in. But he failed to stop Nader, picked a terrible running mate, lost a debate or two, distanced himself from Clinton the most popular president since JFK and seemed stiff, sweaty and like his heart really wasn't in it. Also, in 2004 he made the blunder of endorsing Howard Dean who would have lost 45 states.
Gore would be a strong challenger if he were to run again, but I have spoken to two very close friends of his and they say they have tried to push him but he ain't budging. He really does enjoy being a private citizen. |
