I've never felt motivated to read a book after seeing a movie of it first. Hmmm. Most people say the book is a great read and some of the movie reviews are just so-so. A flip side to your recommendation would be my experience with Lord of the Rings. I sort of wish that I'd seen the movie series first, as some of the changes from the books (which are in my top 5 all time list of favorite novels) were not for the better, IMO. "Lonesome Dove," one of the best movies ever made. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it as well, though have never read the book...
