DU buys wind power .............................................................

Rocky Mountain News

May 22, 2006

The University of Denver is buying 15,000 megawatt hours of wind power, the largest wind power purchase by any college or university in Colorado, and among the top 10 purchases of 100 percent wind energy by any university nationally.
The purchase will supply 10 percent of DU’s energy needs, enough to power the Ritchie Center and two other large facilities.

The purchase was in response to a 2005 student vote to cover the $81,000 cost.

Beginning this fall, each undergraduate will pay an additional $18 a year in fees to support the purchase through Community Energy Inc., a wind energy developer and marketer.
