There was an article in National Geographic recently about ways to stay healthy as you get older.
One of the places mentioned was Sardinia. As my son has married a Sardinian and I have seen it for myself, there are a number of factors involved.
1. Red Wine. They drink (but not to excess) a lot of Cannonau, which is loaded with anti-oxidents, as well as other wines they make themselves which contain no additives or preservatives.
2. Healthy, outdoor lifestyle. They keep active, eat food they have produced or shot themselves, use fresh ingredients, and don't fry a lot of food.
3. Big communal lifestyle. They take lots of holidays, have big meals together, and just plain enjoy each others' company.
4. Genetics. My daughter-in-law almost got a job studying the gene pool of some of the more isolated communities, which have apparently stabilized at some optimal level for long life. A big project is ongoing...
Anyway, hope you fonud that useful. Love those Sardegnian cantinas.
