I worked in Greenland in the middle of the ice cap 90 miles from the Arctic circle in 1974. DEW line radar site. DYE 2, specifically. The building was on stilts and could be raised as the ice pack grew. At least one bulldozer ran 24/7/365 pushing snow away from the site, but it could not keep up. At some point, 10-15 years ago those radar sites were abandoned because they could not be raised any further, and I'm sure are now buried. They were five stories high and sat on a platform 20 feet in the air.

For yucks, I googled DYE 2, and sure enough, there it was. Kind of neat pictures, although it was a terrible job.

On the other hand, we went on an Alaskan cruise last summer and the glaciers there most certainly are retreating. What does it all mean? Damned if I know. I guess things change, and blind people feeling different parts of an elephant will come to different conclusions about the nature of the beast. There's a lot of wisdom in some of those old stories, but Time isn't about that. Probably doesn't sell.
