Anybody know what type of protections exist for cash balances and short account balances at U.S. brokerages? Very good question. I have the same doubts. What will happen when the broker I have cash and shorts with goes belly up. Lets say that half of the brokers go bankrupt. Then what? Will insurance fund have enough money to pay everybody? I doubt it.
