The reason we object to Hamas is that they are unwilling to state that they accept Israel.

No.. not that they just don't "accept" Israel, but that they are sworn to DESTROY Israel.

IOW, they are a political entity that promotes outright aggression against a neighboring state within its organizational charter.

And btw, it's OUR money!! We can choose to give it, or withhold it, from whoever we choose.

We have no obligation to provide financial assistance to a government that vows to destroy another democratic system.

And I'm frankly tired of permitting these regimes to get away with their extortion of tolerant democratic societies. This is the equivalent of financing a "protection racket" similar to what we see from organized criminals (we'll burn your business down if you don't pay us).

I also believe that Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, is proposing a pretty smart plan (as I understand it). In the face of current Palestinian intransigence, he will dismantle settlements on the West Bank, while asserting continued control over some of the larger settlements which lie next to the green line. But the Israeli Army will continue to control the unpopulated regions of the West Bank as a "bargaining chip" to be "spent" at some future date when there is a Palestinian government that is willing to make peace and recognize the existence of Israel.

As always, the Palestinians never pass up an opportunity to pass up an opportunity. And the cost will go up the longer they wait.
