Daughter Lured Attacking Bear Away From Mother With Lunch Meat 2 hours, 12 minutes ago

news.yahoo.com

Doctors are closely watching 36-year-old Rachel Supplee at a Youngstown hospital after she was attacked by a bear.

Supplee's daughter, Daphnee Supplee, said her mother went to walk the dog when she saw the bear coming her way. She went back into the home and closed the door, but the bear broke the door down.

Daphnee said she did the best she could to get the bear away from her mother.

"I got lunchmeat out of the fridge," she said. "It followed me in the kitchen after I got it away from her. My mom got a chance to go out of the house, and I jumped out the window."

Supplee has injuries to her head, chest and abdomen. She is in satisfactory condition.

The bear's owner was cleaning its cage when the bear escaped.

Wildlife officials said the bear was part of a small wildlife park on Route 6, in Hartsgrove. The black bear apparantly escaped from captivity and attacked the 36-year-old woman at a home about 300 yards away.

The bear was shot and killed.

The owner could face charges.
