I think the obvious question is, "How reliable is the source?".

As close as I can tell, there isn't any independent confirmation the guy was even a soldier, let alone did a tour of duty in Iraq, or saw and did the things claimed. For starters, a grunt on the ground is fantastically unlikely to have accurate numbers on civilian deaths. Soldiers don't see the war, they see the little pieces they are personally involved in.

Didn't the guy have any friends in his unit? If the story is true, wouldn't there have been others willing to join him in spreading the truth? Wouldn't there be, after 3 years, other accounts of a similar nature? The Internet gives a voice to anyone who has one, and setting up a website is cheap and easy.

I think I'd take that one with a pretty large grain of salt without a lot more independent verification.
