Solid numbers are hard to come by -- if your students were turned loose, perhaps they would dig up what little there is? Too often the research is funded by corn, ethanol, or much more likely in the past 20 years, oil companies. Coming up with a complete model (e.g. longer last engines) is difficult I think because that sort of thing is hardly ever examined properly. But perhaps it has.

It is clear that if ethanol is the black hole as claimed by the oil industry, Brazil will have exhausted it's land and be begging for oil very soon.
