Gore's Increased Visibility With the Premiere of His New Film Has Political Watchers Speculating
May 23, 2006 — - In political circles, everyone is asking the question that might have been met with shock or derision a few years ago: Could Al Gore be the comeback kid?
Once dubbed "Ozone Man" by George H.W. Bush, Gore may have hit his stride after six years in hibernation by promoting his longtime passion, environmentalism.
Gore's new film, "An Inconvenient Truth," documents the former vice president's journey toward environmental evangelism.
"If we listen carefully and clearly to what the scientific community of the entire world is saying, they're not just saying. … They're shouting it now. … They're saying wake up. … We're facing a planetary emergency here," Gore said recently.
"An Inconvenient Truth" also follows Gore through life-changing moments such as the 2000 election, his sister's death from lung cancer, and his son's near-death in a car crash.
Gore has been crisscrossing the globe to promote the documentary, appearing in Cannes, France, doing the celebrity opening in Los Angeles, and walking the green carpet in Washington, D.C.
The visibility has political watchers and bloggers talking.
"The Al Gore narrative is an amazing narrative," said Arianna Huffington, author of the huffingtonpost.com. "A man kind of born to rule who had the most spectacular defeat in American history now coming back with a very powerful message."
