There was supposed to have been a really cool waterfall at Gibraltar when the Mediterranean filled, though. On the topic of salinity, the real wild card in global warming seems to be thermohaline circulation, which is driven by sea ice formation in the Artic and could shut down. Which would , paradoxically, make Europe much colder.
