I don't live in Russia. I am not responsible for their actions. Everyone is responsible for their own actions (and presumably in a democracy for those of their government).

Oh, I understood you pretty well... You are unwilling to expend any effort towards pressuring other governments to act responsibly...

But you're perfectly willing to let our own government be pressured by external forces... International media.. etc

Just as you're willing to pressure our government to act in a manner that BENEFITS these irresponsible governments.

IOW, what you propose that our government do will PERMIT these irresponsible and internationally unaccountable governments to advance their INTERESTS.

Maybe if people thought about this a bit more, they would require that the blame be spread around and that ALL governments be required to act in concert to advance responsible policies that promote progress, human rights, and tolerance.

Now if you want to say, the right thing to do is X and I am going to push my government to do it and push Russians and Chinese to join in too, then I can live with that.

It's more than just "living with that".. It's applying the same kind of international pressure that is brought against the US against those governments who seek to undermine institutions like the United Nations and its duty to promote peace and tolerance.

France, Russia, and Germany ALL acted to undermine the UNSC with regard to Iraq. And we permitted them to have their "bully pulpit" without opposition. How many times did we hear the left tell the world it was a war on behalf of "big oil" when the oil companies of France and Russia ALREADY had standing contracts with Iraq that only awaited the lifting of UN sanctions??

What if the same kind of pressure had been brought to bear upon them for their willingness to shield Saddam and undermine the UN in order to advance their own existing "big oil" companies??

Maybe we wouldn't have needed to use military force, and Saddam would have been forced to face the fact that he was alone in the wilderness without the means to subverting the international sanctions against him..

But alas.. T'was not to be..
