14:43 EDT Wednesday, May 24, 2006

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Wednesday his country's economy is "rock solid," and the new government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper is working "to make it stronger."

Speaking at the Yacht Club here, Flaherty said that Canada is enjoying its 15th year of growth, budget surpluses, low inflation and the lowest unemployment rate in 30 years.

He also said that the country is enjoying large investment flows, including to its energy sector, which could see several hundred billion dollars worth of investment from 2003 to 2015.
