The cost of a barrel of oil is not relevant. Although it certainly would be higher without the U.S. military stationed in and around the oil producing regions of the world. What would be higher is the end products, because if oil companies were forced to live by the laws of supply and demand they would have to increase their prices for their products like gasoline to pay for the protection of the supplies of their raw materials crude oil. Either that or they would lose money on each gallon that they sold and we know they aren't going to do that. So they would have to raise prices to account for their costs and gasoline would be closer to $10.00/gallon and we would be looking at alternatives, in fact by now we'd probably be well on our way to switching to alternative fuel supplies. $10.00/gallon gasoline is just too expensive.
