Interesting story. The ocean is dispassionate. Pirates do exist, no question. But Escapade is sailboat, with a 50 horse Yanmar diesel engine, not three 275 horse Mercury gas guzzlers. That Donzi boat can go fast and far. Escapade can only go far. Whether its a PIW situation or piracy, that boat owner is a gonner. We were approached by one boat in our trip. Before they caught up with us, Monica hid all our money and credit cards. Turns out it was a CG Cutter that ran down on us and put a boarding team along side. Then two sergeants from the boarding team came aboard and did a safety inspection. It was a thrilling experience to see the US Coast Guard up so close and personal. I was proud. We were in the Mona Passage at the time. At the tip of the hour glass shoal area. This is normally a dangerous area of water but when we were there it was flat as glass thanks to our weather man's timing recommendation. I have some great pictures of the Cutter if you want to see them, let me know. The guys were none to bright, but just the type you'd want on your side if you needed their help.
