That's great news for speculators who want out of contracts as it's a major code violation. Table R703.4 of the International Residential Code, which almost every state follows with their own additions, states clearly that unless you use a shiplapped siding (basically T1-11) or batten the seams you MUST use a waterproof sheathing (14+ pound felt, tyvek, or equivalent) under vinyl or aluminum siding.

Those houses are going to have rotted sheathing in 10 years, and serious mold problems much sooner.

Sheesh, I wonder if they flash their houses?
