Shaeffersresearch reports: General Motors (GM) enjoyed a gain of nearly nine percent today following an upgrade from Merrill Lynch. The brokerage adjusted its rating on the automaker to "buy" from "neutral," citing expectations that up to 30,000 workers will agree to GM's buyout offer. The covering analyst set a 12-month price target of $37 on GM and boosted his 2007 earnings projection. In other news, a judge with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court denied GM's request that a hearing on Delphi's proposal to void union labor contracts be delayed by up to 60 days.
