greg-

optoelectronics was all rage a couple of years ago. still many people working on it, mostly in communications now i think.

heres the thing with the copper chip. most processors are made with i think either 5 or 6 layers. the new process uses 7 layers, so you can put more on one chip. now, traditionally aluminum is used in CMOS (complimentary metal oxide semiconductor) becuase it easy to work with. copper is a better conductor, and apparently IBMs new process allows you use copper instead of aluminum, and its cheaper to do so.

megs or larry: i thought copper was difficult to use in vapor depo. what do you guys think they've done?

good luck to all,
trey
