I don't understand.

We were talking not about displaying the whole image but only a part of an image, which requires the additional step of cropping, and of displaying as an image something that the web site being copies is displaying as something other than an image, say HTML.

I agree that displaying the whole image in its original form isn't much work. I don't see much value to it either except to be cool by embedding pictures rather than linking to them, but it's not much trouble to do, as you say. I haven't found a use for it yet but maybe I will at some point.

But the functionality that IG and I were talking about was embedding cropped images.

I had in mind a table, maybe a survey, where I could isolate only the key columns and rows of the table, maybe use the Firefox highlight extension to highlight a key number, and then screenshot and paste it the cropped and highlighted image into the post. You know how hard it is to make tables intelligible now when posting in plain text. So takeing a screenshot of the relevant chunk of the table is something for which I would have use. I use cropped screenshots all the time in my emails. they take only a couple of seconds to clip and paste. IG is prepared to screenshot the entire screen, crop the image using a separate piece of software, store the cropped image on his website, and then use the SI feature to display his stored file. I'm not.
