it wasn't just the money--i expected better service than SBCrap. one of the internal lines in my house has a ground fault so when it rains a lot there is buzzing noise on all the lines (or maybe that is just the NSA tap, LOL!). SBCrap would never fix it. w/VG, i just ran straight from the cable modem to VG adapter, and then into one of those Panasonic cordless basestations that let you hook up 8 cordless phones. thereby circumventing the crap internal wiring which SBCrap would never fix after complaining for more than a decade. VG is about half the price of SBCrap. Time Warner (Cable) is more than VG, but less than SBCrap. i think TW will have better service judging by their customer service for Internet (which i have had since 1998 or so) and regular cable (which i have had from time to time, but i have satellite now). also i'm hoping my fax will actually work on TW.
