Thin Prep is made to be used with Cytic system and does cost more than traditional Pap smear. Some insurance carriers already approved the use of Thin Prep namely BC/BS of Ohio, a company that invests big time into Thin Prep.
ACMI uses slide tracking technology compatible with any smears.
Cytic is very successful in marketting to the consumers and the share costs more. I am not saying if you should short Cytic or not. I do not invest in Cytic due to its price and, to me, it does not offer a cheaper yet equivalent alternative to the current method. Cytic system is costly to the consumers and until the lab field embraces this technology faster than the current pace; I will stick to ACMI.
