Don't take vitamin complexes. Due to the way they are synthesized they often contain what are called vitamin analogues. These have long been know about. The analogues can be toxic themselves as well as interfere with the action of vitamins themselves. Unfortunately that means taking several pills where one would like to take one. Also the amounts you should take for absorption as in B12 are major. No less than 1000 mcgs of B12 and 1000 mcgs folic acid should be taken orally to ensure absorption to therapeutic levels.

A lot of study is require to know what to do. I recommend reading Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible, Ruth Adams's Vitamins, and Michael T. Murray's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicines and his Encyclopedia of Dietary Supplements. But it does not stop there. Nor does the path to health.

Yes, your arteries start streaking these days in your teens and could be well on the way to plugging in your mid twenties. By your sixties you could be severely compromised. There is something very wrong with the North American diet. It went from what we had adapted to, to what we scientifically thought made for better health and of course made more money. It lacks fibre, and has all sorts of poisons in it. It lacks a sea base, magnesium and natural anti-oxidants. The more primitive the diet the better it is for you!! That stands to Darwinian reason. It is not that ancient people's were so smart, but that they survived to present day eating what they did. Everybody else died out. throwing away that ancient "wisdom" is very perilous.

The best diet of all for the heart strangely is raw meat. There are good reasons. Our meat cannot be eaten that way, but ring seal, whale and walrus can. Obviously not a solution for the human race at large but well worth more research.
