re: I've never knowingly met a Scientologist, so I can't pass on how they are as people. Given where you live, your experiences are obviously different.

I know a bunch, socially and business. Clearwater, FL (next town South) is the "spiritual headquarters". They pretty much own most of downtown Clearwater.

As a generalized observation, they are very nice folks. They work very hard for the community; they donate a lot of time and money. Some evangelical, some not. I have asked for donations for stuff that I am working on and never got a no.

And... they are just nice to be around... in general.

They are VERY good business people... it's part of their thing, and the Hubbard "teachings". They tend to be conservative... Scientology is a very "self-reliant" discipline.

Hubbard was amazingly prolific as a writer... thousand and thousands and thousands of pages on Scientology principles.

Whatever... I just know my experience. I can relate to these folks better than the evangelical Christians. If it's a "cult", OK, so are the Catholics. Probably less harmful.

All strictly in MHO.
