The Palestine is as you said defeated. Can you imagine telling your children to kill themselves but take as many French (Chinese, etc.) with you as you can?

Maybe Abbas is a statesman. It is very interesting that President Bush's cowboy diplomacy (that the leftist part of the world loves to hate) seems to be the only effective diplomacy. It was not until the US cut off funding that anyone was interested in recognising Israel. I suspect you are correct that Abbas hopes to have two separate Palestines with him ruling one of them. We have to give him credit for not following the one vote once path. If he succeeds in splitting the region, would he allow another vote to take him out?
