It was hardly a myth.

I suppose if you run a modern nation as a wild west, every man for himself fashion...

You don't have to accept any of those ideas, for the point to be valid.

If either have to believe in such ideas or you have to be a paranoid lunatic to spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined.

I don't think there was any realistic chance of getting a large number of additional soldiers from other countries to take part in the war.

This war was interesting, in that bush jr could not even get tiny nations presumably dependent on our aid, to support him in the UN...hell, turkey wouldn't support him with even with a $20B bribe (they wanted $30B as I recall)...his father on the other hand had no problem at all. That ought to tell you volumes about the ideology that drove the war, and the political skills of this bunch.

The middle class also received a tax cut.

Yes...i forget that you are mister literal.

The comment you quoted was about Clinton and the congress at that time. Your reply doesn't make a lot of sense in that context.

You should read "all too human" by George Stephanopuolos...the book gives you an excellent insight into the battle between clinton and the gop congress around this timeframe.
