INTER-TEL SPONSORS VOICE ON THE NET CONFERENCE

Phoenix, Arizona . . . September 22, 1997. . . Inter-Tel, Incorporated (NASDAQ NNM-INTL), along with Natural MicroSystems, Cisco, and Microsoft, is sponsoring the Voice On the Net (VON) Fall '97 conference. Over the past two years, the Internet has become a voice communication tool. Killen and Associates, a telecommunications research and consulting firm, expects this new Internet voice services market, called IP Telephony, to reach a valuation of over $60 billion by the year 2002. The VON conference will focus on the businesses, technologies and issues facing the VON industry today and in the future. Held at the Boston World Trade Center from September 22 through 25, the conference will feature over 30 workshops.

Two of Inter-Tel's executives will be among the key presenters at the conference. Michael J. Sargent, vice president marketing and strategic programs for Inter-Tel, will be presenting at the Voice Over IP workshop Monday, September 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Greg Wilson, director, CTI division at Inter-Tel, will participate in a panel discussion on Voice On the Enterprise, September 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Inter-Tel will also be conducting demos of its Vocal'Net IP Telephony gateway and its Inter-Tel.net alternative long distance network at the Boston World Trade Center's hospitality suite Cambridge 2 and booth number 30 in the exhibition hall from September 23 through 25.
