Doesn't make sense. The South American leaders have the same kind of relationship with America as the Middle Eastern oil shieks do.

Hmmmm.........in the last hundred years, when has a western power come into South America and divided up a country? And I am not just talking about Israel.

Lots of poverty to speak of in South America. Lots of anti-Americanism there, too. Shouldn't that be enough to create terrorists? What's the missing ingredient? Islamic fundamentalism.

No. They feel more secure in their sovereignty. For an example, if some Brazilians and a few Argentinians blew up Fort Knox, its very unlikely we would invade Brazil and Argentina. Why? Because they are Christian like us among other reasons.

Plus, S.A. has been able to overthow the dictators the US has supported. The ME has had less success doing that.

Finally, rightwinger ideology seems to be the most fertile ground for terrorism. South Americans tend to eat with their left hand.

Bottomline......had Reagan and Bush I not stuck their noses in ME affairs, 9/11 may well not have happened.

I am sure you've heard what Kissinger told the N. Vietnamese gov't. Apparently, this level of foreign affairs did not start with Reagan.
