I've been wondering for some time why the majority of windmills are propeller designs, rather than vertical axis windmills:

It would seem that vertical axis windmills are more efficient, and might even be more durable and less susceptible to stress than prop types.

Furthermore, maintenance seems like it would be far easier to perform since the turbine is at ground level.
