I think you'd better do a bit more study of American history. Did you know several states joined the Union with ESTABLISHED CHURCHES? The 1st amendment prohibits CONGRESS from establishing a religion, NOT a state government.

You familiar with the Sedition Act, passed by the US Congress in 1798?

It made it a crime to criticize officers of the US gov't, particularly the President, and the gov't itself. WHAT 1st amendment?

At the start of the Civil War, Lincoln suspended habeas corpus. The USSC, under Chief Justice Taney, a Southerner, declared his action unconstitutional, ruling that only Congress had that power (he was correct). Lincoln ignored the USSC and considered having Taney arrested. He also repeatedly jailed newspaper editors who disagreed with him.

During WW1, it passed ANOTHER Sedition Act.

The government doesn't fear us anymore. They (the elected politicians and bureaucrats) believe they are the elite and that they RULE US!
Given this, tell me what you think has changed.

Thomas Jefferson said "the price of liberty is eternal vigilance".
