The ONLY reason you know about Abu Ghraib is because someone leaked the photos, and the press ran with the story. No other reason. Rummy and Bush weren't sorry about Abu Ghraib - they were sorry the story became PUBLIC. The Army announced the investigation before it because public. The media just didn't cover it well. "Public" is too mild for what the story became. The NYT ran it on Page 1 every day for a month. Literally. Gee, do you think that will encourage the Army to rush pictures into the public sphere every time some unit screws up somewhere, which has always happened in war and will always happen?
