I know this has become an article of faith on the left, where everything is Rummy's fault. The CO of Abu Ghraib, Karpinski, is making good use of this belief by mounting a defense that claims that everybody above in the chain of command set a policy that was implemented by everybody below her in the chain of command - while she herself was completely out of the loop.

However, you won't find anybody who knows squat about intelligence who doesn't recognize that Abu Ghraib was OBVIOUSLY not about questioning or even torturing detainees for information. The detainees in question weren't even insurgents, they were just common criminals! This was a bunch of sadistic jailers run amok and amusing themselves. And that's precisely what came out at the trial.

Not that you'll ever believe it.
