Maybe this is where our two topics come together. One adaptation to global warming would be to disolve national borders so people could escape to more suitable climates. If we think we have a border control problem now... <g>

Seriously, it seems to me that one of the kinds of research on global warming would be about the interface between it and our current practices wrt sovereign nationhood.

But, as your Wiki article says,"some orthodox environmentalists consider mere mention of adaptation to be offensive because they believe that mitigation should be the critical focus and that adaptation is a "red herring" that distracts from the focus on mitigation. So they focus mind-numbingly on the "paper or plastic" and "Kyoto" debates, etc., while Rome begins to burn.

Now, let's all drive to the Home Depot today to replace our lightbulbs. And then when we get home, we can use the lighbulbs to read yet another article on the scientific consensus on global warming. Ha! That'll fix it.
