Doing what is SMART and RIGHT means being true to our founding principles, the source of our success in the world... it has nothing to do with what our enemies do, we can safely assume that 'enemies' will ALWAYS oppose us, always try to defeat us, harm us, etc. Nothing new there. (Were the Nazis 'freedom lovers'????? The Soviets? The Taliban? I think NOT.) But turning our backs on the very principles that have made our nation GREAT, and our people relatively FREE would not be a fruitful choice. ABANDONING freedom to become a pale Authoritarian clone of whatever anti-freedom enemy we are facing at any particular period in time would be the equivalent of simply shooting ourselves in the foot.
