Do you believe robbers, kidnappers, and murderers should not fear the gov't? OF COURSE gov'ts have powers nd weapons that inspire fear. How else do you keep an orderly society? Some people respond to no other control. Some fail to respond even to that. Then the gov't hs to use its powers. There were a great mny things, not just churches, that went into the continuation of slavery after the formation of the present federl gov't. One of them was that it would have meant economic ruin immediately for the South had it been immediately abolished. It was expected that it would soon die out. The Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin and it got a new lese on life. Who won that Whiskey Rebellion? What happened to that alcohol tax after it?
